The confused

Confused Peter Beinart

1

Hard to forget, a few years ago, Peter Beinart was interviewed regarding Trump and Anti semitism, and was asked:
Can someone be pro Israel and anti semitic?

He could only give one single "example" throughout history. Listen to his so called "example". That is, according to him, that a Polish official before Israel was reinstated, has encouraged immigration from Poland to Israel, because he didn't want the Jews there.

Couldn't figure out how the interviewer didn't ask the obvious, how did this 'make' that Polish hater/guy "pro-Israel"?

With all due respect to Mr. Beinart. But one must stress his clear confusion and blurred. definitions. At least Judge his "judgement." Even without deciding or concluding on the original question.

But if the question is, can someone be Zionist and anti Jewish. Well, if and when the definition of Zionism is used in the sense that Israel belongs to the Jews, historically and for being there long before the Arabs, then one might suggest Prof. A. .Toynbee [ 'This Is How We Ruined Toynbee's Theory,' Yair Sheleg, Haaretz, Jan.25.2007. https://www.haaretz.com/1.495402 ] while in 1918-20 he backed the Zionist program.
Who believed in that, later saying but without getting it by force. Yet, since his childhood still had a "problem" with Jews, as his Biographer notes  ['Arnold J. Toynbee: A Life', 1989, By William H. McNeill. https://books.google.com/books?id=-Q4POZH7C1AC&q=Jews "It remains true that Toynbee was profoundly unsympathetic to Judaism and to Jews. As a child he learned to associate the poor immigrant Jews of London with sharp commercial practices, and his early Christian indoctrination branded the Jews as stubbornly proud for refusing to accept.. the Gospel.. "]

Which might "explain" his outrageous wierd expressions and definitions on Israel's 1947-8 actions. Which he somehow, in a way retracted, (though not explicitly, or maybe not even noticing it on the spot), his previously written in a book as of some kind of "uniqueness" admitting in it's wrongness, in January 1961 ['When an Israeli Ambassador Debated a British Historian on Israel’s Legitimacy—and Won.
The Montreal face-off between Yaacov Herzog and Arnold Toynbee offers ways of discussing the Jewish state that still feel fresh' By Yair Rosenberg. Jan.31.2014.

Though he still tried to sugarcoat it by reiterating that one is a murderer if he murders one or thousands. Yet, stumbled to answer as to why he didn't written that about the Arabs massacring civilians.

PS
It would be fair to say, had Toynbee knew
Issa Nakhleh would exposed himself as an outright Holocaust denier, he wouldn't have blindly adopted his 1949 invented slanderous outrageous phrase about "worse than Nazis" in it's "brutality". But still this illogical phrase which he couldn't justify, confronting in 1961, is forever a stain.
